Welcome to Noobie Knitters KNIT ALONG!
We will be working together to give you a good start in the wonderful craft of knitting. You don’t need to have any experience at all to join, and if you have knitted before, that’s fine too! I have been knitting for about a year and a half, so I remember the difficulties I had when first starting, and the strategies and exercises that made it easier. In some cases, we’ll be learning together! You will get lots of practice in all the basics, and will build on those skills to create some really beautiful work!
REGISTRATION FOR THIS PROGRAM IS REQUIRED.
Please drop in or email us with your name and contact info. Your kit must be paid for before the class starts. We will have no more than 8 students at a time in each class. We will add more classes if needed. Latecomers are welcome for up to six weeks after the start date, and if a new student needs extra help to catch up, we’re glad to help them along.
Your $50.00 Introduction Kit is your only cost.
It includes:
3 skeins of Bernat Super Value yarn in your choice of colours
1 pair of 5 mm knitting needles
1 12-pack of stitch markers
1 crochet hook
A set of cable needles
1 pack of yarn needles
Printed notes and a folder to keep them in
A pen
A pouch for your tools, and a bag to put everything in.
Our Knit-Along Project
Our project will be to knit a collection of squares which will then be seamed together to
make a blanket. The size of your blanket will depend on the size of your squares (8” or
12”). The blanket is yours to keep, or you can then donate it to the Linus Project. Each
of the squares will be a different knitting stitch (with some duplicates).
What You’ll Learn
You will first learn the basics of knitting – casting on, casting off, knit, purl, and fixing
simple mistakes. Then when these can be done competently, we’ll move on to basic
stitches like stockinette, garter stitch, seed stitch, moss stitch, and rib stitch. We’ll also
practice some of those all-important skills such as increases and decreases, changing
colours, carrying yarns, and weaving in tails.
Later on, we will learn some texture stitches like waffle stitch, pyramid, tumbling blocks,
King Charles brocade and more, all with simple knits and purls. We will be tackling
cables next, with a few squares in various cable patterns. Then we will work on some
simple lace patterns, such as eyelet, and finish with an introduction to stranded
colourwork. By the time we are finished our blankets, you will be well prepared for
knitting almost any project you like. Extra help will always be freely available between
classes.
Schedule
Two schedules are currently available.
Saturdays 10 am to 11 am
Wednesdays 1 pm to 2 pm
Participants are always welcome to stay longer and hang out in our lounge. You’ll have
the opportunity to ask questions, get help and advice, and chat with other
needlecrafters. The Happy Stitching Lounge is open whenever the shop is, and you can
come in any time. New participants are welcome to join anytime, so if you’re enjoying
your classes, bring your friends! The program will continue as long as we have people in it!
After your first class, we ask for a $2 donation to our Birchway fund, or a food donation
for our food bank box each time you come. This is voluntary but encouraged.
If you have any questions after reading this information, please email us at MagicHourNeedlecrafts@gmail.com and we will be glad to answer them. Or contact us through FB at Facebook.com/MagicHourYarnShop

Hello, Cheryl! We are at 227 Bunting Road, which is just around the corner from the WalMart on Welland Avenue. We are in the same plaza as the Alexanian carpet place, in the corner beside Brofasco.
I am an Amigurumist and am always looking for new yarns for my projects. I will be coming by to check you out next week😄
That’s great, Sandy! We just got in some Red Heart amigurumi yarn, although we haven’t got it out of the boxes yet. Next week would be perfect! Or if you’d like to join us on Saturday 10 am – 3 pm, the Happy Stitching Lounge is always lively, and it’s nice to connect with other needlecrafters. Or you might like to check out our Noobie Knitter’s Knit-Along. More info on that here at this link:
